In Nigeria their top judge, Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, was banned from holding office because of falsely declaring his assets. He was originally suspended by Nigerian President weeks before the presidential election, this then prompted allegations of interference in judicial matters by the president.
I believe that the president should not have interfered in these judicial matters, especially weeks before the presidential election. Especially the way it was done in an unconstitutional manner. In order to move a chief justice normally 2/3 of the senate need to approve, but Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari did not follow this process.
People believe that the decision to remove the chief justice was premeditated and the decision was made before the actual hearing. I believe that the judge should not be banned from office just because of him not clarifying money he had in foreign bank accounts, he should be suspended but being banned is a lot more punishment than I believe the chief justice deserved. Especially since it all started with an unconstitutional move made by the President. I believe a suspension should be the most the chief justice receives.
