Vice President Chiwenga stated that plans are underway to open up natural regions in Zimbabwe for agricultural means. Natural regions 1, 4, and 5 will be affected where youth and trained farmers will work on estate farms. He hopes this along with other programmes will boost food production. About 300,000 hectares are to be cleared along the Limpopo and Runde and lowveld region to create a greenbelt across the country. They plan to have minimal imports on food in the future as they grow as an agricultural based society.

I believe that Zimbabwe is being overambitious. My cause for concern is after looking of geographical data, region 4 and 5 of Zimbabwe receive inconsistent amounts of rainfall along with having less rainfall than all other parts of Zimbabwe by about half. It is also noted that region 1 is a timber farm and the treasury is expected to pay for all of this and a new irrigation system for the entire lowveld region, which is over 20% of the state. They also want to back away from the globalized world by wanting to cut off imports. I believe the better action to take would to get help like madagascar did, where they got China to help them create a new strain of rice, whereas Zimbabwe is relying on itself and people to do it themselves, which is nationalistic i guess. If they cut off imports they may lose out on opportunities from the country that is providing them their food.
