This article talks about how Madagascar has had some detrimental effects towards its population because of an ongoing drought. They have not been able to get sufficient nutrition because of this and in parts of the country they have been eating locusts, leaves, or even shoe leather just to survive. There has been reports that this could be the first case of famine caused by climate change itself. However, there is a school in Canada who had recently heard about this issue and wanted to do something about it. A group of ninth graders raised around two thousand dollars for this issue while the Canadian government had also recently provided around sixty million dollars to the Canadian foodgrains bank, a group that supports food initiatives around the world. These two thing coupled together have been helping Madagascar’s morale and overall well being as there is help even if they don’t think so.

This article is important because it shows countries looking out for one another, as Canada has little to no relation with Madagascar, however they are going out of their way to help them out. Madagascar needs all the help it can get and a country like Canada who is kind of a country who stays out of conflict for the most part is a perfect one to go out of their way to help a country that is in a poor geographic location regarding climate change.

This relates to what we talk about in class through geopolitics because a country like Madagascar is going through struggles that Canada does not have to get put through. Climate change is a lot more detrimental towards some countries which is shown through the article and how they have not been able to feed themselves correctly due to not being able to grow their own plants and more.
