Summary – A group of international aid organizations has reported that West Africa is facing its worst food crisis in a decade due to increasing conflict, drought, flooding, and the war in Ukraine that is affecting food prices and worsening an already disastrous situation. Over 27 million people are already suffering from Hunger in the area. The coronavirus has also increased food prices to skyrocket in the past few years. Experts have predicted the prices will rise up to 20% because of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The crisis in Europe is also resulting in funding cuts to aid in Africa.

Analysis- The statistics of the report show that the situation is really dire in West Africa; many children are malnourished and starving. The invasion of Ukraine is making this even worse and fueling the flames of a already burning fire. When there is a impending war, not just the civilians involved but the whole world suffers as funding cuts are being made to food programs in Africa. Hopefully Russia comes to a ceasefire soon because many people are suffering as a result of Putins invasion.

This relates to IR because International relations is always affected by current events and the effect a famine has on nations can be very severe. A food crisis is tied directly to the state of affairs and economy of a country. This is an example of how large scale invasions in one continent can affect the economies and lives of people globally.
