Since 2013, the Nigerian military has conducted systematic and illegal abortion ending 10,000 pregnancies among women and girls in secrecy. A majority have been kidnapped and raped by islamic militants. Any women or girls that resist were beaten, held at gunpoint, or drugged into conformity. Women and girls are being being drugged, beaten, and forced into marriage with islamic militants then raped, resulting in pregnancies. A woman named, Fati, experienced all of this and was liberated by insurgents who then aborted her 4 month old fetus without her knowing. This Militant Organization is widely seen as an Islamic terrorist group.
Boko Haram is a Islamic Militant Organization. Boko Haram’s objective is to take Islam and push it forward to make Nigeria and Chad a pure state of Islam. This Militant Organization is forcing Islam on these states using terrorism. A radical Islamic state in Africa would be massively destabilizing for this region and surrounding regions. These reports of women and girls being beaten and raped and then being drugged so that they miscarry their fetus in their whom without their knowing is an atrocity. These atrocities are still happening right now in Nigeria and Chad with the number of abortion increasing.
Boko Haram has affected this region in many ways. For example, Boko Haram is seen as an Islamic terrorist group and terrorism can very easily spread throughout Africa and possibly globally affecting international instability. Boko Haram’s violence is also seen as a humanitarian crisis because the group has displaced millions and violated women’s rights in many ways. This group can also affect diplomacy between states in Africa but also internationally. Regional security is also an issue when you have a group fighting for a pure state anyway possible. As you can see, Boko Haram is a violent group fighting for what they want with terrorism.
