Mass Ethnic Killings, Pillage in Sudan’s Darfur – Rights Group

There are two rival militaries in Sudan one named the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who launched an attack on the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF). It was November 24, 2023 and the attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces were by a military base near Babanusa in West Kordofan. This forced residents of this city to flee to anywhere nearby and prompted the Intergovernmental Authority on Development otherwise known as the IGAD to hold an emergency summit. In this emergency summit located in Djibouti they discussed the war and possibly how to put an end to it, because since the start of it in April of this year it has driven nearly 6 million people form their homes.

This article is very important for this region because although it may be a horrific attack that could have caused innocent civilians to die, it finally raises the issue of what is too far. At the IGAD’s summit they could have been talking about a bunch of different topics but if war keeps outbreaking in parts of Sudan where there are civilian lives on the line it gets to a point where you have to put a stop to it by any means necessary. This war started fairly recently in April, 2023 and nonetheless six million people are already left homeless and with nowhere to turn this war no matter the outcome will leave lasting impacts for decade to come and not only just infrastructure to rebuild but also the lives of every civilian and soldier who has been affected.

This connects back to our class discussions because you can apply it to the theories we have been talking about. This applieds because if you look at this civil war currently happening in sudan and you try and find other countries all around showing there support for either side you don’t see anything because no other countries want to get involved because its not in there economic interest.
