Human Rights Watch is urging the Colombian government to halt the promotion of five senior military officers.

They are being investigated for allegedly executing civilians who were wrongly accused of being “guerrilla” fighters.

As many as 3,000 Colombians – many of them farmers – were allegedly killed by the army in what’s become known as the “false positive” scandal, to boost the government’s campaign against rebels.

Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports from Bogota.
