A meeting of the summit of the Americas is due to take place on April 13. At least 20 heads of state will meet in order to unite the different regions of America and discuss the current issues plaguing the Americas. The meeting, however, could not take place at a worse time, due to the multitude of problems in the region. From Peru’s president stepping down, to Trump’s sending troops to the Mexican border, to Venezuela’s economic crisis, there rests a massive amount of instability. With this, Donald Trump cancelled his attendance due to complications with war in Syria, and his cracking down on immigrants coming from Latin American countries. Similarly, President Maduro of Venezuela was not invited to the summit, but plans to attend anyway. His missing invitation is most likely due to the recent elections in Venezuela, that many Latin American leaders and governments are refusing to recognize, since the opposing party to Maduro was banned from running. Altogether, the leaders of the America’s have an abundance of issues to tackle, but the meeting is necessary in order to find solutions that might alleviate the current state of Latin and Central America.
