Latin America is in the midst of a murder-crisis with 2.5 million murders since 2000 (33% of the world homicides), and with many presidential elections coming up the murder rate is bound to rise due to political tensions. Security is a large topic in the elections but it may end up being an empty promise, until politicians realize how badly it is hurting their economy through tourism. In Nicaragua violent protests are extremely frequent regarding their corrupt president, and the U.S. implemented a travel watch on the country which drastically curbed tourism which is a large part of their economy. But the civilians don’t seem to be stopping until their president steps down.
