The Island of Hawaii has always been a fascinating beauty of the world, but recently volcanic activity has threatened the natural wonders of the US state. A series of small earthquakes has triggered the explosion of the Kilauea volcano on the island. This eruption has caused scorching hot lava to spread over the largest island causing massive destruction. But perhaps the scariest danger of the volcano is the release of sulfur dioxide in the air. The fumes have caused a scare for public health and many evacuations have been called on the island. The Governor declared a state of emergency.
Most recently a 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook the island causing the magna to move. Not only has the volcano erupted but volcanic vents have opened up causing steam and lava to spit out. Volconalogists and other scientists say this is just the beginning of a series of eruptions taking place in the near future. It will be interesting to see how the National Government responds to these environmental threats especially after the controversial over how Mr. Trump handled the tragedies in Puerto Rico.
On a more spiritual note, traditional Hawaiians believe the volcanic activity is dependent on the volcano goddess, Pele. The constant threat of potentially harzardous volcanic activity is integrated into the lifestyle of Hawaii’s residents. Hawaii’s main economic industries, tourism and agriculture are at risk with the volcanic threats.
