Gun Ban from 2013 is Making Venezuelans Furious

2018 has not been a great year for Venezuela from having an inflated currency with no value, to millions of citizens fleeing to other country. Venezuela may currently be the worst off County in the Americas, and it doesn’t look like It is getting any better. A gun ban that was created by the late President Chavez. The ban feels outdated considering the citizens can no longer protect themselves in one of the most dangerous places on the planet. “Guns would have served as a vital pillar to remaining a free people, or at least able to put up a fight,” Javier Vanegas, 28, a Venezuelan English teacher (MKay, 2018). When the socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro took power in 2014 after Chavez’s death. The dictator supported the ban and invest about 47 million in the, “disarming of all Citizens.” As an American I personally see the right to bear arms a god given right, but looking at the world I don’t know if some countries are stable enough to have gun rights. That being said the citizens in Venezuela need those guns to protect themselves and fight the Government that is oppressing them. Venezuela is a humanitarian crisis, people are starving and getting murdered at an alarming rate. “Almost 28,000 people were murdered in 2015”. (MKay, 2018) OSAC stated back in April of 2017 around 73 people died per day and that number has probably grown. The problem with a socialist Government is the Government has a majority rule over the people meaning that in order for the people to have guns to fight the Government, the would have to get the Government’s approval of guns, or from an outside source. I personally don’t see America stepping in and helping the citizens. Possibly Trump would want to stabilize the Venezuelan Government because he is publicly anti immigration, and the Caravan would be hard on American lives(due to the high volume of new citizens). I hope in the near future Venezuela’s people can get armed, and overthrow there corrupt Government and place a good leader that will fix the financial issues, I however do not see it happening any time soon.
