The knew President of Brazil has quickly making change. Removing LGBT recognition, repealing climate change agreements, and changing land promised for previously enslaved families. These changes are unsurprising as the leader is a far right one. He draws comparison similar to Trump for some of his beliefs and the way he ran his platform. Running on cleaning the government and fixing the economy. Seeing these statements made from a leader are common. Whether he can fix them will be a different question. Looking at how he wants to do it may be hard. Tearing down the Amazon rainforest is one of the ways he plans on boosting the economy. The international push back would be immense. The Amazon rainforest is considered one of the most important natural forest in the world. While it does have a major economic impact, it also has a major environmental impact. Also leaving the Paris climate agreement is one of his goals. This will also be unpopular. Bolsonaro’s attempts to help support the economy come in ways that again will not be popular to the people. Indigenous land has been turned over to the agriculture department. These changes and political moves may come as boosts to the economy, but at what cost of the support of the people. The other problem is what will other countries think of some of these moves. Losing support from other countries is not something Brazil wants. If Brazil starts looking like a dictator is in rise they may lose democratic support, including the U.S. While this is a possibility, Brazil has met with the U.S. and promised they will help support democracy in South America. Brazil support of democracy is a smart move as it will continue receiving help the from the U.S. and grow a closer relationship. Bolsonaro has tried to clean up the Brazilian politics as well. He had former left wing President put in jail for charges of corruption. Whether this a way of locking up opponents, as seen in Sub-Saharan Africa, or this is an actual campaign, that is still to be seen and will have to be figured out in the years to come.
