Analysis on Venezuela

As the events in Venezuela have been unfolding in the past couple of weeks, Maduro’s regime has been crumbling infront of him. With more and more countries supporting Juan Guaido’s claim as the interim president, as well as the National Assembly supporting his claim, Maduro has been losing a grip on his power. To top it off, the United States has placed sanctions on the Venezuelan Oil, which has created more of a panic within their economy.

Due to this Maduro has been trying deperatly to discredit Guaido’s claims by censoring the press. Recently there has been three Journalists arrested, to which the Venezuelan Foreign Minister claimed that they did not have permits to be able to be working. One of the journalists was Spanish, while the other two were from the neighboring country of Columbia.

Back onto the topic of the economy, last year alone the inflation rate of Venezuela closed at nearly 10,000,000%, at a rate which is called hyperinflation. This has also lead to the destruction of Maduro’s dictatorship. Millions of Venezuelans have fled the country due to not having access/the ability to buy simple necessities, such as food, water, or medecine. Guaido estimated that if foreign humanitarian aid does not get into the country soon, nearly 300,000 people are at risk of starvation. But the dictator Maduro refuses to let this aid in, fearing that the aid will lay the path for the United States to enter the country and remove him from power. This block of aid however I believe will not change the outcome. Either he lets the aid in and the United States follows behind, ousting him, or his own people get fed up of not having enough food to survive and do it themselves. A country and its people can only take so much of this hyperinflation before something is done to change it, where it is from the outside or from within.
