Syrian Civil War-Belgium

The Syrian Civil war is a conflict between the dictator, President Al-Assad and his forces, and rebel groups who want him out of power. This causes many issues globally from the factor of refugees. Issues arise with where to send and disperse, cost which includes employment and training, political which includes rise of nationalism, anti-muslim.

Many countries around the globe have taken in refugees and this causes issues politically, economically, and socially. Countries must set limits on how many refugees they can take in and this is difficult because they don’t know ahead of time. For example Germany stepped up to be the leader in the EU but then the problem of where to disperse them arose.

Belgium gave 26 million EUR for humanitarian help in Syria and surrounding countries. Belgium believes that negotiation is how the Syrian issue should be confronted and that restructuring of Syria is necessary. Belgium is involved very much on the topic at this point. They donated money to humanitarian aid because in a lot of cases money brings stability to nations.

I agree with Belgium for the most part that money can add stability and obviously bring aid to people in need, but I think taking in refugees is the best thing to do at the moment. I think that countries should take in refugees temporarily and make sure they know that, and although yes this could cause issues socially, it would be an improvement from the long lasting effects on the country. This can cause harm because they become rooted in their new home and would be lifted back into Syria when it becomes stable. This may not be for several years so it is a difficult topic because we don’t know how many we can take in. So overall I agree that sending money is the best option.
