Beef in Venezuela

With things heating up in Venezuela, the world has its eyes on the aggressive actions that Guaido has been vocally portrayed online. This past week, Guaido made a video outside of the airbase in Venezuela saying for Maduro to step down because he no longer has military support from his own country. Guaido had Venezuelan soldiers standing behind him, with the airbase in the background in a stunt to scare Maduro from office. Guaido claims that Maduro has no more support from his country and that he should step down in order to give the office to Guaido. Maduro fought back on Twitter and TV reassuring the country that he still has his power and support from the country itself.

A journalist sat down with a reporter and author, John Lee Anderson, discussing the situation that has been occuring within Venezuela’s borders since the beginning of the year. The two talked about how Venezuela has become the Cold War 2.0 by having the Americans and Russians backing opposite sides. Venezuela has become a proxy civil war between the two superpowers, and has been receiving backs from both large countries through various ways. It’s very hard to predict the outcome of this standoff between Russia and the United States, however if it is anything like the past, then there will just be more and more proxy wars being fought.

Both sides have been bashing each other constantly since the beginning of this conflict, but tensions have continuously been rising as each side uses different measures. Social media has become a big foundation for the bashing between each side, and with people that have millions of followers online, have a base of followers that will do almost exactly what said person will say. It’s difficult to justify the legitimacy of social media posts from the leaders of a country, only because most twitter posts are published because of emotions instead of factual thinking.
