With the recent election in Guatemala brought on new diplomatic relations with its neighbor El Salvador. In efforts to begin to strengthen and unify central america many new policies have been introduced between Guatemala and El Salvador.
The biggest being no border control, people can pass between the two states and its considered a domestic travel. Also all flights are to be considered domestic. They choose to do this in hopes that it will help with industry. They are aiming at ties much deeper than just a free trade agreement and want to expand it across other central states. To continue to strengthen the bond Guatemala will allow El Salvador to build a Atlantic Ocean port.
I feel it is great for the region to begin to strengthen. For a region of the world that has struggled economically and industrially this is a great thing for them. If this works and more and more Central American countries follow suit this count brings another part of the world into the international eye. I am curious how this continues and how their relationship grows or falls because of this. The biggest question moving forward is that are they able to maintain this or will in fall to pieces in a year.
