Argentina just passed 900,000 Corona Virus cases this week. The cases are a lot higher in denser populated areas and cities like Buenos Aires. Argentina is almost breaking records with a positive rate of 72.5% as of Sunday (one of the highest levels in the world). Last week Argentina registered almost 100,000 new cases. Last week around 300 deaths and 9,500 new cases were reported in just 24 hours putting Argentina in fifth place for global cases and a death toll in the global top ten.

The government recently constructed restrictions on the movement of people in the provinces for two weeks due to the incline COVID-19 cases.

As an example of the virus’ spreading outside the city of Buenos Aires, in areas where the virus is untouched or inactive the city of Rosario, they are using the hospital to their advantage, where COVID-19 patients, hospital staff are staying.

It is a smart idea to restrict travel and movement of the citizens of Argentina due to the rise in COVID-19 cases but is it that easy? Especially in cities with close quarters and a high population. The problem Argentina is facing could be due to quarantine rules that aren’t strict enough causing the cases to rise even with a current 200-day “quarantine”. The moving of cases to the hospital in Rosario will hopefully help but that could put the city at unnecessary risk. The city of Rosario is the main port’s hotspot. It has important agricultural commodities from the Pampas farm belt to export markets. Argentina is a major global soybean, corn, and wheat supplier. If the Corona Virus cases rise in Rosario due to the movement of patients and doctors it could cause a lot of disruption, not only in the health of the community but in the economy as well.
