As Biden vows monumental action on climate change, a fight with the fossil fuel industry has only begun

Our new president Joe Biden has promised for a while to become the climate president, and on Wednesday he detailed far-ranging plans to shift the U.S. away from fossil fuels, create millions of jobs in renewable energy, and conserve vast swaths of public lands and water. He says that the nation has already wasted precious years as it delayed in dealing with the climate crisis. In barely a week in office, Biden has moved to rejoin the Paris climate accord, halt the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, impose new limits on oil and gas production, and mandate climate change as a priority across every federal agency. He also said the United States will lead the world in the global effort to cut greenhouse gases that are driving climate change, where as switzerland leads currently. On his first day as president, Biden rescinded the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that enjoys the support of some building trade unions, and on Wednesday, he announced an indefinite halt to new oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters.

I see the American Enterprise Institute and the Petroleum Institute have their troll brigades fully engaged. Their rich masters are terrified that they may be held responsible for the real price of oil extraction and carbon pollution. I think its extremely ambitious to move as fast as we plan to with becoming so environmentally friendly. But it’s a transition from fossil to clean fuels, not abrupt change. Fossil will be used, but new energy funding will be for green energy. There needs to be a serious effort to train and invest in new green jobs in coal country. I think once the US has it under control here, we need to do something about China as well considering they are producing more carbon than the entire rest of the world. Overall im really happy that we have said were joining Paris climate accord and it will hopefully really benefit the planet in the long run.
