Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a plan for Canada to domestically produce covid vaccines. Production will start later this year. This decision was made because of the extremely high demand for vaccines around the world and being able to obtain them is getting more and more difficult. The National Research Council will produce tens of millions of the vaccine that was developed by Novavax in Maryland. “This is a major step forward to get vaccines made in Canada, for Canadians…. We need as much domestic capacity for vaccine production as possible,” Trudeau said. “We won’t rest until every Canadian who wants a vaccine has received one.” The approval will be big for Canada. Once the facilities are built and equipped to produce huge amounts of vaccines it will help Canada jumpstart their lack in the ability to produce any type of vaccine and due to covid’s virtually immediate response needs they are unable to do so.

I think this will be really good for Canada. The ability for them to produce vaccines in house can be extremely beneficial. They will have the ability to vaccinate their own people at the rate in which they choose. This can eventually make them money. If they are able to manufacture a way to make a successful vaccine at a high rate then they could sell it. Especially when the demand for more covid vaccines will be needed for years to come Canada could have a serious economic boost.

On a global level, this probably won’t have any impact for a while. Eventually it will have great impacts for Canada and its people. There are a couple ways that this could have positive effects for Canada internationally. If they were able to sell it to other countries and have economic gains for themselves. They could also trade it to other countries who desperately need it, for example countries in the Middle East with horrible medical access, but great oil access.
