Five people in Texas have been arrested for conducting a smuggling operation. A total of 97 people were found in a single home. These people were locked into two rooms, removed of their clothing, and not given food for a total of three days. All were men, except for five women. The raid first started when a woman called to report that her brother had been kidnapped. It was later discovered that this woman paid $11,000 to get her brother across the border, but then got a call from the smugglers, whom demanded that she pay more money. They threatened to kill her if she did not pay the money. This all took place in a house that was being rented. The homeowner was interviewed and claimed that they had no idea what was going on within the residence. Additionally, this is the third smuggling bust found this week. Last Wednesday 52 people were found and last Thursday 27 people were found.

For some time now, an increased amount of immigration problems have been found between the border of the United States and Mexico. This has historically been a problem for many years, but just recently the problem has become worse. Some infer that this is likely due to the COVID-19 virus, and the fact that people may want to come to the United States to receive a vaccine and/or escape from Mexico’s poor handling of the situation. This article is important to post because it could potentially warn others who may have been considering crossing the border to consider finding safer alternatives.

Geopolitically, we know that borders are areas that tend to have more conflict. This is because of two factors; the cultural mixing between the two countries and/or cultures, and the natural aspect of their closeness in proximity. The border between the United States and Mexico tends to have conflict due to both the mixing of American and Hispanic cultures and the fact that the borders are connecting. Texas in particular has immigration problems due to their close proximity to the border of Mexico.
