A Russian company by the name of Rostec has created a new affordable jet. The jet that it is competing with is the United States jet, F-35, which is around 80 million dollars. Rostec CEO, Chemezov, names the jet the “checkmate.” It is obvious that Russia, which is the second largest arms dealer in the world behind the United States, is attempting to become the more successful of the two. Rostec is directly controlled by the Russian government which only makes their marketing decision even more interesting. At Russia’s latest showcase of Checkmate, they seem to direct their attention to American allies, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and India.
Rostec’s marketing strategies represent Russia’s true goal. The goal that the Russians are attempting to achieve is shutting out the American’s market and making them the best market in the world. Russia continues to try and best America in an attempt to become a bipolar power once again. Russia has been very successful with this, Keir Simmons says that, “Russia has already demonstrated that it can leverage a rift in U.S. relationships in the region.“ Russia is slowly breaking the United States by stealing their alliances through selling at a much cheaper rate. This is seen through the recent actions by the United States, when they created sanctions on their allies of Turkey due to their purchase of Russian arms.
This relates to class because it shows that countries continue to fight to become the sole power in the world. Russia tried to become this during the Cold war but imminetely failed. The United States is currently a unipolar power and it becomes more and more apparent that countries are attempting to take that power away from them every day. Soon restarting the hourglass of power. Becoming a bi-polar and then inevitably becoming a multipolar once again.
