Some Venezuelans are receiving the opportunity to receive temporary legal status, making it easier to get authorization to work. “It can provide some kind of security and stability in the meantime while they are here in the U.S. At least 7.3 million people have left their country of Venezuela in the past 10 years because of political, economic, and humanitarian crises. Most stayed in surrounding Latin countries, but many have come to the U.S. the past 3 years through the Darien Gap which is a jungle separating Colombia and Panama. However, President Biden is also restarting deportation flights to Venezuela for people who are not authorized to be in the U.S.

In my opinion, I think it is important to make sure there are secure borders to our country and people are coming here legally. However, I think it is still fundamental to give opportunities like these to allow countries that are in a time of harship to come here in times of desparation. Job opportunities here are like no other country and a temporary legal status to allow people to work will at least give a specific guideline to those who want to come here of what they can and can not do. It is sad to hear that people have to take a dangerous approach such as coming here through a stretch of jungle.

This relates back to our class because the topic of immigration especially from Latin countries is something that we discuss often, and it impacts our country significantly. It is a highly controversial topic but it is definitely something that needs to be talked about for many reasons. The policies we have in place regarding immigration change regularly due to our different Presidents having different opinions as to what should be done. Either way, immigration from Latin countries is something that our international relations class relates back to often.
