Biden and the President of China, Xi Jinping, have decided to meet with one another in Peru to talk about their rising tensions after the winning election of Trump. Especially after Trump had promised to slap tariffs that goes up to 60% on all chinese exports. The two had both discussed the war in Ukraine, the production of fentanyl in china, and the falling of china’s economy. Tensions got even worse after the Biden administration criticized chinese military assertiveness towards Japan, the Philippines, and Taiwan. President Xi Jinping, to congratulate Trump on his win he had called for the US and China to set their differences aside.
I think this is a first step to something greater, I mean I don’t think that our relations with China will get better. I think that is hopeful believing, but I do think that acknowledging this growing tensions will definitely help the two countries. I am not entirely sure how China views America, but I do wonder if they do wanna just put aside differences and just, at least, tolerate each other in a world they share together. China might wanna have better relations so they they can go through with their BRI, but this is only my guess.
I think this can cause many mixed feelings upon the people of America. Especially since politically we are super split now. But at the same time, China isn’t the hottest topic nor the biggest concern for America right now. America has a lot of internal conflicts happening right now that a lot of people just can’t seem to agree on. Where as I believe China’s biggest concern right now is their economy. I mean in an ideal world, everyone would get along and no conflicts would appear. But then we also have to talk about influence and how we treat other, etc. Many countries do things very differently and I think that is what the people of each country would be worried about the most.
This relates due to how we are talking about liberal Theory and how ideally this would be nice. Just like the prisoner dilemma, ideally it would be nice for the prisoners talk it through and pick the right answer that gets them both out scot free. Realistically, I don’t think that is how this will end though. Especially with how Mr. Bailey had put it, when two countries are getting along and you throw in another country and they get along it works all together. Each country is like a part in a machine, where if one falls then the rest can’t work.
