Edan Alexander has been released after 584 days of being held hostage by HAMAS. As per other deals, Alexander was released without the exchange of others. Alexander had been used in HAMAs sponsored videos but was not paraded out of the strip as other hostages have been in the past. Alexander was a special priority for Trump to negotiate the release of as he is an American citizen. What potentially contributed to the deal was the American operations of supplying aid to Gaza with Israelis support and protection. Private American forms are the ones carrieing out the distribution of aid directly in order to try and prevent the aid from being stolen and withheld by HAMAs as prior reports suggest. There are 20 hostages believed to still be alive, with the new distribution of aid and negotiation dates set up, many hope that the war is at the beginning of the end.
This article demonstrates that there are steps being taken to end the war in Gaza, as per one of Trumps campaign promises. This also seems to be a small turn around from a few months ago when Trump proposed American control over the Gaza Strip. The US and Israeli Governments have worked closely in the last few months to find a way to end the war. Negotiation seems to becoming more common but the extent to which American will involve its self is still unknown. America has been acting as a mead actor between HAMAS and Israel with moderate success, however Trump has shown that he is willing and able to pull America out of the role if he deems the war to be a lost cause. On the flip side, the Ambassador to Israel has stated that Trump has done more for Israel than any other prior President, though this could be because of the high national interest of American Hostages that were captured on October 7th.
Israel needs to listen to what America tells them to do. Though more powerful than HAMAS, Israel does not have much global support. America is the near lone supporter of Israel but both countries have butted heads over how to handle the war. America need to tread a fully to as there has been a movement to step down from the role of global police. If America becomes too involved in the conflict it would reflect poorly on the current party and the way they carry out their promises, causing a massive loss of support in the midterms and next election.
