Europeans send troops to Greenland as Trump presses claim

United States President Donald Trump continues to send threats to Denmark and Greenland, ones that express the thought of that if the United States isn’t in control of the mineral rich and geographically advantageous island of Greenland than Russia or China would easily be able to overtake the Danish military and become not only a military and economic threat but also a geographical threat. The threats have led to EU nations such as Finland, Germany, France releasing small amounts of military personnel to make a statement that If the US attempts to use force to take Greenland then the EU will be there to back up Denmark. Denmark’s defense minister also made a speech and in the speech he made a statement about how security in Greenland is for all of NATO.

This seems to look like sides are already starting to form in a situation that is supposed to for the benefit of American security. I believe that America can’t afford to lose our allies in Europe over minerals. Because if what Denmark’s defense minister said was true how the defense of the island is for all of NATO than the only reason that America cares about getting Greenland Is for their minerals and possibly they want to gain a geographical advantage towards our enemies, which to me doesn’t sound like a strive towards peace but a strive towards a future unnecessary conflict.

America could respond to this situation either by seeing the risk of upsetting our friends in Europe to the point where the minerals aren’t worth it. Or, they could see the risk and decide to put boots on the ground in Greenland as it seems like that’s the only way that America is going to be able to control Greenland to the degree that they would like. The members of the EU already made the decision to send in military troops, but if they’re going to want to be able to threaten or scare the top power in a unipolar power system than they’re going to need to send a lot more arms and destructive devices that should hopefully only be used as a scare tactic.

The EU is attempting to protect Denmark’s Constitutional Act that creates Denmark along with Greenlands global recognised sovereignty. Citizens opposed to America controlling Greenland argue that America has no right to take Greenland from a fully sovereign state just because they believe it is the right decision for the good of the world. The whole article is also based on the EU’s decision to utilize hard power as a statement that says that if America decides to violate sovereignty than Europe will not be on their side which we could eventually see the end of NATO occur from this eventual decision.
