Summery: The article includes the statistics showing the proportion of voters who would rather protect the borders between the United States and Mexico than fund overseas conflicts. It gives examples of foreign conflicts such as Gaza, Israel, Ukraine, and Russia. The information presented in the article compares the viewpoints of both the Republican and Democratic parties. According to the article, nearly 80% democratic and 38% of republican voters are in favor of providing aid to Gaza. It is evident that large numbers of Americans support military aid to Israel but also provide Gaza humanitarian aid. When reading further into the article you are shown a graph of a poll answered by 1,000 people. It demonstrates that many of them prefered to increase the budget and funding for security along the Mexican border over American interference and aid in foreign affairs.

Analysis: Although the article mainly consists of data and explanations of the data, it helps me to better understand my stance on the issue as well as how our two parties approach the issue. Along with that it virtually serves as a reminder of American greed not necessarily in a negative way, but it demonstrates the cautiousness and selfishness of our tax dollars being used for something other than our own security. I am not able to decide whether or not its positive or negative due to my strong belief that safety should come first. We should concentrate on our national safety. But as someone who is first generation American of immigrant parents, I also believe that those who are crossing borders may just be seeking a safe shelter and the U.S might be the only option.

Connection to Class: We frequently discussed how diverse groups reside in various nations and that the United States should instead be referred to as the United Nations. This is relevant because the U.S is welcoming to those looking for a fresh start which is why it is referred to as the “american dream” in many underdeveloped countries. I think people often overlook others struggles and don’t see that many motives for entering the country illegally are not for the sole purpose of causing trouble but are instead calls for help. Since it’s not something many have had first hand experience with I believe that sometimes lots of people become blindsided, however, once they do see certain conditions they may begin to empathize much more.
