With the recent win of Donald Trump for the presidential election, there are countries all over the world that are reacting to this situation differently. I know Japan’s Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, was quite overly enthusiastic over the win of the presidential election. To no one’s surprise Vladimer Putin was also quite happy with this outcome and had even stated a public congratulations to him. But Trump had talked about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, saying that this war could potentially lead to WWIII. So there are hinting ideas to the idea that both will speak to each other about this war. But that doesn’t change that leaders gathered for the European Political community, to discuss Trump’s return to power. There are many worries in Ukraine and Europe that Trump will slow down or even stop flow of american military in Kyiv, Ukraine. This has caused the UK Prime Minister to assure Ukraine that they have their support. Hungary’s Prime Minister has also said that the US and Europe will now face tough talks about trade. Trump had big emphasizes on imposing tariffs on imports, hence why trade may be tough topic. But the Prime minister says, “There was an agreement that Europe should assume greater responsibility for its peace and security in the future. To put it even more bluntly, we cannot expect Americans to be the only ones to take care of us.”
I didn’t find Putin’s support for Trump to be a surprise, nor the worry of Europe and Ukraine. The amount of foreign support that Trump has gotten has more than just surprised me. Trump had, again, promised to impose tariffs on the imported goods. China is supporting Russia and Russia likes Trump who doesn’t like China. That is what kinda confuses me. China, to congratulate trump on his win, wanted to set differences aside. This won’t stop Trump from imposing a 60% tariff on Chinese goods. Will we be seeing liberal theory here? Where countries are just trying to get along together? I doubt Trump will follow along though, in order to make our economy better and have people buy more american good.
This could mean many things for many people. I know many Trump supporters are quite overly happy to hear about these tariffs. I’m not sure they are sure what that means, because if they want an item that has come from overseas, it will merely be more expensive to buy said item. Which is why I am a little more confused as to why other countries would praise and congratulate Trump on his win. I mean, I understand that they have relations with Trump and that they are close friends or allies, but still wouldn’t you be a little angry that you have to pay more to import goods to a good allies country?
This relates to what we are talking about because we are really talking about Liberal and Realism theory right now. This article also talks about the war in Ukraine which Trump brags to say that he will be the reason that there will be an end to the war. Russia has taken a more offensive stance into expanding, especially with wanting to take the territory of Ukraine under Russian control again. This is why other countries are worried about Ukraine, especially if Trump stops or slows down American military in Kyiv.
