During Trumps visit to the Middle east, he signed a deal with Qatar Airways to order 160 Boeing jet’s that consist of 787’s and 777x’s which are mid and long range jet’s. Qatar Airways is Qatar’s national airline and has many routes across the world. Qatar Airways also opted to use General Electrics engines as opposed to Rolls Royce engines. That switch and this announcement made Boeing’s and General Electric’s stock go up as investor’s liked the news. According to the white house, they said that this equipment is worth 96 billion dollars, however, it will take many years before the jet’s will be delivered. This will be the most amount of jet engines according to GE and this will strengthen ties with the middle eastern countries.
Trumps visit already strengthened ties with countries like Saudi Arabia, but also this investment into the US would further better relations that could impact and shape the future of the Middle East. With strong partners, especially next to Iran, this could help influence and impact negotiations in the Nuclear deal. This could help the US gain more influence on countries in the Middle East especially with the Oil producing countries. It could help lower the oil prices as more trades open and relations improve between the countries. I think it’s good that we establish these relationships with other nations that could help establish a stronger foothold in the region trying to outpace China and other nations.
It is looking good for the future between the US and Qatar as they’ve invested billions into the US and I think if we become better trading partners that both partners would benefit from it as we require so much stuff as a nation and imports are essential. If the relations between both nations turn sour they could turn and could affect the trade between the nation but also could affect the American consumer through the oil that we get from those countries. The US has been using diplomatic powers to force more companies to manufacture and produce domestically compared to sourcing it from other nations. As the US pulls away from an unipolar power, it still needs to have control over certain areas of the world. The Middle East is rich in oil and that is a massive reason why we have influence in that area.
