After Cambodia’s press shut down, there is less insight into what reprimands came of the arrest of the opposing political party’s president. The “democracy” functions more like Russia’s, in that there is only an allusion of choice and say in the government. Earlier in history this may have caused the U.S. to step in, yet now their previously installed press has been cancelled, as well as The Cambodia Daily. Chinas government is very similar; therefore, their nuclear deal with Cambodia (which doesn’t benefit China much at all) may be done in support of their recent government dealings. Also, since China has been excluded from multiple free trade agreements such as the European Union’s free trade agreements and the Trans-Pacific Partnership they may have felt the need to gain more power and standing in the economic field. In turn, they have been trying to make a new “silk road” for a couple years to grow their economic power by creating a high speed network between some of their largest businesses near the original Silk Road. China is also bullying other countries out of waters near their boarder to take the most advantage they can. If this continues, China may start to be a larger player in world affairs (specifically economics) in the near future outside of being a main exporter.
