9 farmers killed at Negros Occidental hacienda

Nine farmers were killed in Manila. Three gunman had come up to the property of nine local farmers and killed them. Police claim they don’t know why this occurred however, they are trying to find an explanation. The people who were killed included 4 women and 2 minors, who belonged to the National Federation of Sugar Workers. Police identified the victims as Eglicerio Villegas, Angelipe Arsenal, alias Pater, Dodong Laurencio, Morena Mendoza, Necnec Dumaguit, Bingbing Bantigue, 17-year-old Jomarie Ughayon Jr, and 17-year-old Marchtel Sumicad, all residents of Sagay City. The Philippines have had terrorist attacks in the past. Though this hasn’t been identified as an act of terrorism this could be one of the possibilities. In 2016 there was a terrorist attack in the southern region of The Philippines. An explosion occurred killing hundreds of people.

The U.S Embassy got involved in making sure the the attacks stop there and there haven’t been any major attacks since that time. Since this attack can be viewed as minor, there still needs to be an emphasis on security in Manila because these “minor attacks” are getting closer and closer to the capital of the Philippines where there are the most people.  The U.S Embassy did not get involved in this attack because they don’t see it as a large threat. There could also be another possibility to the attack. Since The Philippines is a third world country, many people don’t have much money or food. This can cause people to steal other people’s possessions. There could be many possibilities to this attack. The governor also announced a P500,000 reward for information leading to the gunman’s arrest. This is a good way to help find the people who were involved in the attack. Since many people don’t have money, this could potentially motivate them to look or speak up if they know or saw anything that can be related to the shooting. Problems like this around the world should be stopped immediately before it spreads and results in the death of more people.
