Recently, Mohammed Dewji had been kidnapped by masked gunman who had believed to be foreign nationals. Before the abduction Mohammed was going for his usual workout when the kidnappers waited for him outside. The motive for the abduction is still unclear. The abduction took place in the neighborhood of Oyster Bay. I believe that this happened because the abductors disagreed with his views and since he is Africa’s youngest billionaire, he’s worth a lot of money. This seems to be more likely the case because the gunman fired shots however, not at Mohammed. They must’ve wanted to keep him alive for his money and hopes that he can pay them for his release.
This is a problem for third world countries because many of the people don’t have enough money which makes them turn to forcing people to give them money by threatening lives. This can make for an unsafe community and can make people feel that their own possessions aren’t safe. Also since most of Sub-Saharan Africa is going through a drought this can also lead people to feeling anxious about their future well-being. Mohammed tended to donate some of his money to people who needed it most, so he’s one of the few higher class people who give their money away to help their country. By giving money companies who can make the overall well-being of Africa better, such as improving wells and pipes to allow clean water to be spread around the community, it can make people feel secure about their living situation. When everything turns to anarchy and people use violence as a way to support themselves it can slow down the potential development of third world countries such as Tanzania. Mohammed requested that he had limited security while he was at the gym. This shouldn’t be the case because there should be a higher level of security on people such as Mohammed. Overall, I think that an abduction of one person can imact a whole community because they’ll become worried about other people in the community which can result in distrust between citizens.
