FOR THIS ROUND of region reports I read an article about China’s plan to prosecute their former interpol chief, Meng Hongwei. In addition to plans to arrest Hongwei, he has also been expelled from the party and stripped of all government positions. After being suspected for taking bribes, Hongwei fled China for France where he was detained by Chinese forces. His own wife allegedly thought he was dead while he was missing. Hongwei had been taking money through bribes and misusing state funds to finance his family’s “Extravagant lifestyle.” (Sounds to me like something you would do Mr. Bailey)

I find it interesting that I feel like I see so many stories when reading about Asia that involve corrupt politicians. I think that it even opens up a conversation about how within certain regions political corruption seems to be so prevalent. It almost seems like this corruption spreads when politicians in surrounding states learn about it. More so than that this article showed me how wrong my worldview may have been. My bias was that seemingly every politician in China was corrupt seeings as they have some absurd laws throughout the country but this shows the government doesn’t stand for corruption.
