Joe Biden and Suga the prime minister of Japan had a 30 minute phone call on thursday. In the phone call they talked about a few different things, but the main thing Biden wanted to get across was that he wanted to strengthen the ties with Japan even more and continue their close bond. They also discussed that they will be working together on issues such as climate change and the Coronavirus. A big topic they went over was the Article 5 of the Japan-US security treaty. Japan also stated in the call that it will be willing to work more with countries like India and Australia along with the United states. However they did not talk about the olympics and weather or not it will be postponed.
I would say this is a very good thing and could have a large effect on the region for a long amount of time. If Japan, India, Australia, and The United States all become trading partners and form a trade deal this will benefit them all and bring more wealth into the area. This will also help America keep influence in the area for a longer time as it is struggling to do so right now in Pakistan. It will create stronger ties for the region. I also think it is a good idea for every leader we have to get close with his allies so if anythings goes wrong you can build a sense of trust and comradery.
This relates to class because it ties into geopolitical politics. In the part of the world were Japan is located The united states is losing its influence and power because china is ramping up its military and trying to build connections of its own. But If America makes a Strong alliance with Japan and India it can still have a strong influence over the area. Along with that they will have a strong military position to attack from if anything does or would happen.
