Myanmar forces fire on protesters again as Indonesia appeals for peace

Security forces in Myanmar have opened fire on anti-coup demonstrations in several cities, killing at least nine people. Indonesia issued a call to end the violence and restore democracy. Since the military takedown began on February 1st, a total of 40 media members have been arrested. The number of people killed as risen to 233. Western countries have condemned the coup and called for an end to the violence and for the release of Aung San Kyi, the country’s democratically elected leader, who was detained at the beginning of the coup. Asian country neighbors, led by Indonesia, have offered to help find a solution, but a regional meeting held on March 3rd failed to make headway. The 10 countries of the association of Southeast Asian Nations have long held to their principle of not commenting on each other’s internal affairs but the Myanmar coup is now forcing a reassessment of that principle.

The situation in Myanmar appears to keep getting worse and worse with no solution ahead on the road. Because media workers now have to risk their lives just to cover the situation, it has become harder and harder to release and record news from inside the coup in Myanmar. It is important that neighboring countries try to help find a solution because a rise in immigrants to their country could be a disadvantage to them.

The coup in Myanmar can be tied back to giving military a power in a country. If you end up giving a country too much power, you can risk something like this happening. It is also important to not give the military too little power because they could serve as useless.
