Zheng Yongnian a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and president of the Institute for International Affairs, Qianhai, believes that the current US irrational China policy is a result of the collective panic the US has on China. “What is your take about US trade officials becoming hawks? Is there any rationality left in US politics?” asked the Global Times. Yongnian responded “Today, both parties have shifted their direction in foreign policy. When it comes to China-related issues and trade policy, the Republican Party is relatively rational, still considering the situation of China-US coupling.”

This article is important because I usually dont get to see Chinese leaders and their opinions. Alot of our media sources come with bias, aswell as the Chinese. But its always nice to hear different opinions. Although Yongnian is a professor, his expertise in International Affairs gives great insight on how the Chinese view the US and its foreign policies.

With growing talk over keeping America first, focusing on Americans issues, staying away from international affairs its important to remember how our current interdependent world works. Even if the US fully detaches from China, its problems will only worsen rather than improve. The US has slowly changed from a proud working middle class society, to a society of the rich and poor. Why is there such a big problem with world order in today world? experts say it comes down to not enough public goods. Not surprisingly, its not that the world doesnt have enough capacity to provide, but because the worlds great powers dont want to cooperate enough. The amount of money US corporations make working and sometimes basing themselves in China is unthinkable. The amount of wealth that is gathered as a result of US-Chinese relations should benefit all Americans. Not just the ones at the top. If only these US corporations were paying taxes to benefit our community…
