The pledge to start develoment stratigies on both sides started when liu Jianchao, the leader of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Commitee, held talks with the Indonesian President and officials. Liu met with the Indonesian president Joko Widodo and many other political figures. The two countries both came to the conclusion to implement development strategies, deepen pragmatic cooparation, and bring more strenghth to cooperation and cordination on international and regional affairs. This would then in turn, in theory, bring more prosperity and peace between the two countries, and serve as a model of cooperation between two large developing countries.

This article is important because it highlights that Indonesia is making deals with China, and that their relationship is deepening. This is not new, but it shows how much of a key trading partner Indonesia is to China, them being economic buddies since the 1950’s. This will have a lasting impact on the region because it could further develop the two nations. It could bring a new age of development and bring about new inventions and ideas. I think this development between these two countries happens because China relies on the materials that come from Indonesia that they need such as mineral resources.

Both of these countries are states (independent countries) that are both economically connected. China is a bigger and wealthier global player than Indonesia, but China teams up with Indonesia for the economic gains that come with getting material from the region, and Indonesia teams up with China because most of their imports come from China and they are economically dependent on China. What’s very interesting about this is that Indonesia is on good terms with the United States, but they have been warming up to China a lot recently, which can be a sign of power changes in global powers.
