China increases its regional aggression against Taiwan, as well as towards other countries they claim they must have territory in. The United States has been supporting Taiwan in their fight against China, last month Biden gave $345 million in military assistance and now U.S. lawmakers are pushing to send more military as the United States intends to support Taiwan’s independence. Last Tuesday they pushed this number all the way to $19 billion in military sales in fear China is planning to invade the country in the near future. United States spokesperson Mike Gallagher spoke out the other day saying the U.S. defense industry must speed this process up in order to ensure the safety of Taiwan as well as protect the interests of the United States. And under the Taiwan Relations Act the U.S. must make it a priority that Taiwan is willing and able to defend itself against offending forces.
United States officials have been warned by Beiging that by the year 2027 they will have enough military power to invade Taiwan. First let’s look at the reasons China wants to bully its way into Taiwan, the very first and most important is China’s long standing territorial and national identity aspirations they have with the island. This is a war about microchips, while Taiwan has the infrastructure and intelligence to make millions of these chips and the entire outside world somewhat depends on Taiwan for these chips. While China still makes microchips, they are not nearly the quality of Taiwan’s and with this major advancement China’s economy would take a positive turn therefore more power for the superpower. However, Taiwan at the moment is in a good place in terms of defense, any conflict initiated would have a bad look on China as well as China’s economy and ability to import and export goods.
Taiwan is a non-recognized state, although it has international recognition China has not granted it full independence nor does it view the country as independent. The United States supports Taiwan in its journey for independence while it has its own independent government and is considered sovereign to most of the international world. The conflict between the two countries would be devastating to both, although Taiwan has the means to defend itself China is still considered a superpower with overwhelming influence.
