Head of anti-homophobia group assaulted Analysis

France, a country that legalized gay marriage in 2013, still has obvious hate. Sadly similar to a good majority of the world homophobia is still a massive problem. In the article Guillaume Mélanie, talks about how he was attacked by a man yelling homophobic slurs-this man ended up breaking his nose. Attacks like these have been happening very often in France’s capital, with the article referencing two young women who were attacked last week, and a comedian- Arnaud Gagnoud- was attacked by 6 people for hugging another man after a play. The mayor of Paris commented saying, “We will do everything to ensure that everyone is free and sees their rights respected in Paris.” however how significant is this comment? How many people have to be abused before something is properly done about this dilemma. However this is not just occuring in Paris, but worldwide. A BBC news article from last week addresses a young man getting kicked in the face for being gay. I feel that with more right wing uprises in Europe these events are just going to keep happening without some kind of intervention. The rising AfD party in Germany is, sadly, becoming increasingly popular with an agenda that’s against gay marriage. People are becoming too comfortable knowing there are likely no consequences against their actions. Yes there are articles being written about the abuse LGBT people suffer, but there is nothing being written about what happens to those abusers, because for the most part nothing is happening to them. People are getting of scotch free even though it would be considered a hate crime. This is not only a problem in Europe, but the rest of the world as well. Cases such as these happen all the time in the U.S., think back to the Pulse Nightclub shooting. People should be learning and adjusting to accept people, and while the world is getting better at acceptance, there are still many steps the LGBT community has to face.
