Big Changes

One of my articles was an environmental article. The article discussed the fact that 2018 was the hottest year on record. I think this is extremely important to spread awareness of climate change so people like us can make daily changes in their lives that will benefit the environment. British meteorologists have compared data with the United States and both states have come to the conclusion that 2018 was the fourth hottest year following 2015, 2016, and 2017. Both states also concluded that the next five years will continue to increase in temperature. I find this scary because in a couple years, or our kids lives, people will not be able to participate in activities we take advantage of today such as swimming, surfing or diving for coral reefs. This cannot occur with this heat because coral reefs are dying and with it their inhabitants including fish and plants, as well as other wildlife.

Another article I read was one suggesting that the French knew about the attack of the Rwandan president before the Rwandan genocide. The Rwandan genocide was one of the worst genocides in world history. I find this incredibly surprising and appalling if it is true. If the French intelligence was aware of the attack prior to the attack, I feel that an uproar would follow. I think this because so many states and organizations were involved in aid to the Rwandan people and the world would rise in an uproar of sorts because one, if they knew ahead it may have been able to be stopped, and two, all the lives that were lost including natives and those bringing aid and troops to the Rwandan need at this time of genocide and cruelty. I find the Rwandan genocide a sad topic but also very interesting. If this turns out to be true there is a lot of mystery added to the genocide and its repercussions. We are discussing ethnic and religious conflicts in class now and this is a hot topic.
