During the simulation, I mostly spoke to the other delegations during the unmoderated caucuses. I never formally spoke during the moderated or gave a speech. Although I did not, I feel like I had a role in our negotiations. I looked at clauses provided by other delegations and agreed whether we would sign on them or not. Ben did a fantastic job of representing our delegation and our views during his speeches and discussions with other groups. For the most part, we were all on the same page.
As far as preparation goes, I did not feel too prepared for the simulation due to my absences. I did read the background guide on Vision and that provided sufficient information about the situation and the fictional refugee crisis. I think this was a really good topic to discuss because it could have gone so many different ways. Our simulation was a bit argumentative in regards to block 2’s group.
I would not say that I necessarily struggled during the simulation, it was more of gaining the confidence to speak to others/ potentially in front of the group. I don’t have this issue at Model UN because I know that I’ll never see those delegations ever again, but in front of my peers was different. I wish that the blocs were more open-minded and not so hard set on their ideas and views. One country specifically would not budge no matter how much you tried to negotiate or get them to see their point of view.
