Block 7 Caleb Smith

The EU is on the ropes, first Britain one of the three leading powers of the EU is in the process of trying to escape from the supernatural conglomeration. Now the idea is starting to float around in the minds of both German citizens and populations. There is two ways this could end with a Gexit (German Exit) which is highly unlikely but would probably be the death sentence for the EU. The second possible solution is a complete restructuring of the EU which would have more power to act apart from NATO due to a lack of trust in the United States it would unite Europe on the issues of climate change, migration, economy, and rule of law.

First, regarding Gexit it probably won’t happen the politicians voted and only 1 out of ten agreed on leaving the EU. The more viable option is that the Germans would abandon the Euro and go to the Mark which would cause the Euro to lose around 50% of its value. The Mark would be a stronger currency if the Germans decided to do this. The problem with this for the Germans is their exports would become more expensive which would affect trade around the world. Also imports being cheaper could hurt domestic manufacturing. The other problem with this is that all of their loans to other countries would drop in value causing them to not recoup the full value of the loan.

The more probable solution would be complete restructuring of the EU. Right now there is a big rift between the Germans and the French is about the loaning of money to countries that clearly can’t pay it back. Right now they are in the process of deciding whether or not to give 130 billion euro in bailout money to the Greek who would go bankrupt if they don’t receive the money. The other issue that is a major point of discussion is climate change which has been disagreed on by countries in the EU. At the end of the day is Germany leaves the EU you could see the end of the EU or a significantly weaker union.
