Israel unleashed heavy strikes on Lebanon as US, UK urge restraint

Following the Israeli attack on Hezbollah by planting bombs into radios and pagers and leaving 37 dead and 3,000 wounded, Israel has begun to drop bombs on Lebanese rocket-launcher barrels in southern Lebanon that were going to be used to launch rockets at Israel. The Lebanese prime minister , Najib Mikati, sent a letter to the U.N. claiming that Israel was responsible for the exploding pagers and radios and that the U.N. needs to step in and stop Israel’s “aggression” and “technological War”. Due to the rising tensions the UK has heavily urged an immediate ceasefire to the warfare because they want to try and prevent a war between Israel and Lebanon. The United States also want no parties to escalate tensions because the United States is “afraid and concerned about potential escalation,”

This article is important because it shows the barbaric ways that Israel uses to spread fear throughout an entire nation. Leading up to the attacks, Israel announced a new war objective: The safe return of residents displaced from their homes by months of fighting with Hezbollah across the northern border with Lebanon and Israel sent out a warning to the U.N. that the only way that they could achieve their goal was “via military action.” Due to these attacks, all the residents of Lebanon are now on high alert and in a constant state of fear because they don’t know if Israel detonated all of their bombs.

The U.N. will most likely focus on ways that would ultimately deescalate the situation before they do anything else but they could also come to a decision to backup Lebanon by sending them medical supplies to treat all of the people who were wounded in the attack and munitions to retaliate against Israel but only as a last result because the main objective is to deescalate the situation not escalate it by choosing sides. On the other hand, Israel could take this a step further by launching greater attacks on Lebanon and the U.N. and NATO would have no choice but to step in because there would be no way to deescalate the situation.

Inter-government Organizations (IGOs) are large multinational political unions that are run by governments of member states. Based on this definition, not just one country is affected if the U.N. decides to get involved in the conflict going on between Israel and Lebanon. If tensions continue to grow and the U.N. still decides to get involved, European countries could potentially get dragged into a war that will take place in a whole different continent. This wouldn’t be fair because if some counties decide to stay out of the conflict and not send help and they are still punished for sending aid, this could also rise tensions between other European countries.
