https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/nov/19/poland-closes-last-russian-consulate-after-act-of-state-terrorism-on-railwayPoland now believes Russia is willing to sabotage important things inside Poland and not just Ukraine, which leads to a national security threat, which makes Poland feel like they have to protect their country more seriously. This strengthens Poland’s bond with the US, EU, and Ukraine because they all see Russia as a shared threat. As for Russia, losing the consulate massively limits the amount of information they are able to collect and influence inside of Poland, and it makes Russia look much more isolated. They might use this as a way to blame Poland for attacking their Russian rights to control their public narrative. And for Europe, they are now no longer seeing Russia just as war fighting, but as sabotage, which means that they might start using more surveillance systems and sharing more intelligence around the area about Russia.
Long term effects will probably be that the trust between Russia and Europe could fall to the lowest level since the Cold War, and diplomatic talks between them might become impossible. NATO might also increase troop or recourse providing to Eastern Europe to prepare for more threats in the future.
