Living in the United States, its hard to understand the citizens lives who are living in this war zone and what they are experiencing. Schools continue to be under fire and they are very few left in this area of the world. The Aleppo attack killed almost 400 people, with a quarter of those being children. These kids should not have to be put into such conflict at such a young age. After I had submitted my article posts, I came across an article that was by The Guardian that was about a seven year old girl who was tweeting about her life in Aleppo. She was tweeting simple phrases such as “I need peace”. This article really made me think about how air strikes and bombings affect the citizens living in the Middle East. On the news you hear stories starting out with ’22 dead’ but I think we’ve become so blinded from negative hearing stories like this so often that until you put names and faces on to the victims we are not affected by the tragedy. The news depicts more negative than positive so most of it just goes right over our heads.
I haven’t heard about migrants being found in the Mediterranean since this summer. Over the summer, refugees were constantly being reported found drifting on the sea. When I saw article titled ‘more than 6000 migrants plunked from sea in a single day, 22 dead’ it was just a reminder of this summer when ever you turned on the news it typically had a story about refugees being found. Its important for the media to continue to put emphasis on important issues like refugees because these people have no real place to live unless individuals or organizations reach out and help them. One thing that I think Americans should be looking for in the presidential election is how the candidates think of the refugee crisis. We should be helping this people who have escaped from their homelands and place of conflict to a place in which they can settle to thrive in a new culture.
