Iraqi anger grows after election postponementhttps://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/1/30/iraqi-anger-grows-after-election-postponement

Iraq leaders recently pushed back the parliamentary election date with fear of important leaders being removed from office due to public anger. Originally targeted for June 6th, 3 head officials decided to attempt to move the election to October to allow for more time to garner support from the people. Although, experts say that it is unlikely that they will be approved to move the election and it will likely take place in march. The anger from the people in Iraq has been spawned by a lack of proper leadership, economic opportunities, and endemic corruption.

I believe that this is a fantastic thing. As the U.S continues to remove themselves from Iraq, it is great to see a little bit of liberalist theory taking place, specifically democratic internationalism. The idea that it spreads slowly is showing. Although, the approach was mostly realist, but the best results are coming though the liberalist approach. As hundreds and thousands stand up against the tyranny in Iraq, I believe that within the year, more democratic leaning officials will be elected and begin to shape the country to more western practices and ideals. I look foward to see how the results of the election will effect the structure and functionality of the country.

I immediately see liberalist and realist theories shown in the aftermath of U.S involvement in Iraq. Although dominance and force was demonstrated by the U.S, it is the liberalist theories that are having the most affect on the region. I’m not sure if there is a causation between U.S presence and people protesting for more democratic liberties, but I believe that there may be some correlation. It’s pretty cool to see that even today, history is being made and the world is changing. It’s almost like watching a 21st century version of the American revolution take place throughout the world.
