Recently multiple European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain, have urged Israel to stop expansion into the West Bank, as there is extreme violence going on in the area and the settlement is causing mass disruption. In Sheikh Jarrah, settlers and Palestinians living on the street where the evictions might take place have faced off in nightly clashes during Ramadan. On Thursday, the area was sealed off as an Israeli far right lawmaker came to see the situation. After he left, there was conflict between settlers and the police, resulting in 15 arrests.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been long going on and continues to become worse. The battle over who has a right to Jerusalem is one that is violent and has not become any better, as Israel refuses to accept any other ideas as to who has a right to the city. Different ethnic groups have different ideas based on their religious beliefs and the texts that they follow. Because of these different texts and ideas the ownership of this city as well as Palestine’s efforts to become a recognized state and have their own territory creates extreme conflict that has led to countless deaths and extreme unrest in the region.

Due to the humanitarian crisis that this conflict is creating, it could be argued through liberal ideology that it is the moral obligation of large global powers to become involved in this conflict and try to resolve it in order to help those being adversely affected by it. Since this conflict is seen more as interstate and less of a humanitarian issue, there is little intervention by outer powers, however according to liberal ideology it is the responsibility of hegemon and IGOs such as the UN to become involved and help the citizens of Palestine.
