Right outside of a school in Somalia eight people were killed and 17 were injured. Out of these seventeen people injured, thirteen of them were children. At around 7:30 am an Islamic suicide bobmber was attempting to target a convoy of UN officials. In an SUV full of bombs he blew up the SUV right outside of a school failing his attempt to kill the convoy of UN officials. He did not kill or injure any UN officials, instead he injured thirteen children. In the past few months this Islamic group has stepped up their attacks against the Somali military after there was a mandate for government protection. These attacks come after a long delayed election.
It is terrible that we live in a world that in different parts of the world than we live in, these attacks are almost normal and part of every day life. Although the Islamic group was trying to target UN officials they instead injured thirteen children and it is really disturbing that this will not stop them from doing something like this again. I think that this will create long lasting impacts on this region because this Islamic group will continue to attack like this until they get what they want.
Islamic groups have been known to do this kind of stuff and express militaristic power. The United States supports Somalia as one of our allies and it is in our national interest to have better living conditions and overall peace throughout the world so although there will be more attacks I do not see these attacks carrying on for years. Somalia is also part of the African Union and the African union has already put laws into effect to protect the Somali government. These attacks will also lessen when Somalia gets out of the drought that they are in.
