A 19-year-old Palestinan native Kareem Jamal al-Qawasmi was shot dead after he was suspected of stabbing two Israeli officers in the Old City in East Jerusalem. The officers shot the teen outside of the Al-Aqsa Mosque at around 4:30 am on Sunday March 6, 2022. A video taken at the time of the shooting shows the young boy laying on the ground with the officers surrounding him, with one even stepping on him while “trying to restrain him”. According to Wafa, a Palestinian news outlet, Israeli Officers went on to arrest al-Qawasmi’s brother and mother hours after he was killed while raiding their house.

Since the beginning of March, Israeli officers have shot and killed three other Palestinians in two separate incidents in the West Bank, as well as demolishing two Palestinian homes after they were suspected of a shooting killing one Israeli student. All of these events happening within a month of each other leads me to believe that these incidents have more motive behind them then what Israel has stated. The fact that the places where all of these incidents took place are the areas disputed over the two countries really has me thinking that plays a bigger part then the actual crimes committed by the suspects that were killed.

This relates back to class through levels of analysis. Looking at what happened through a state level, both Palestine and Israel have reasons to want to stay in control over the land that is currently being fought over. Israel is obviously taking a more extreme approach than Palestine has in order to try and gain control over the land even after they have somewhat come to a  standstill. On an individual level, the moves that Israel has been making have a more personal reasoning than what they will publicly come out and announce to the public.
