To try and avoid any crisis for the fighting government, a key official in the Israeli government said that they will stay in the weak coalition. Mansour Abbas, leader of the Islamist Arab Ra’am party in the country, 1 of the 8 parties that make up Israels coalition, stated that he would keep his party in the coalition. Despite the fact he suspended it in earlier weeks due to tensions at holy sites in Jerusalem in the past weeks. Ra’am is the first party that represents Arab citizens that joined any coalition in Israel. Though the parties that make up the coalition have different ideologies and seem to have only formed to take power away from former leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
I think that it is good that Ra’am did not leave the coalition. Yes it is definitely very hard to work with people that have different views as yourself and with tensions rising in the country that definitely does not make it any easier. But if Ra’am had left the coalition, with its 4 seats, the government would have continued through minority rule but would have struggled with pushing legislation, and allowed for other parties to leave the coalition. So I believe that it is key for Ra’am to stay because it might be extremely difficult and painful but it will ultimately help the country.
This relates to the class of international relations and comparative government because of power levels, with the coalition being together and working Israel can work as a moderate state, not really weak and not really strong. The formation of this coalition also seems like a consensus of political organization since they were trying to take away power from the former leader. As Well as Ra’am being a minority group in the government it gives them less power. Also Jerusalem being the capital and main historic core, it is not only a major political center but also major in imports and other important things.
