The video was about the food crisis in Sudan. As the war in Sudan has steadily increased there are more and more people who don’t have food to support themselves or their families. 5 million people are starving and another 18 million people are food insecure. The video showed people of all ages actively running to get more food and water because of the lack of it. Many of those that are needed have tried to flee to other countries. The problem is that Sudan, despite the support it needs, has received little. Until the UN started to speak on this issue and try to create a way for there to be a cease-fire for the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims where they fast all day and do not eat until sundown. I think this is very interesting and could be a result of the United States slowly becoming the world police. While Sudan is not a very high priority for the United States I would be interested in the approach we take to bring support. People in Sudan are struggling for a plethora of reasons but other than in International Relations I have heard nothing about this war even taking place. And without wars like this being in the news, they can’t get the backing of the American people which prevents the United States Government from feeling obligated to spend the money. I just feel it is really unfortunate that all these people have to suffer just because they may not have the most useful geography. While I understand and appreciate the realist ideas I feel it is very sad to live in a world where we don’t care about others suffering. I think as far as the United Nations is involved I think that this is a perfect example of how they allow for diplomacy but in the end they can only make suggestions to the rest of the world. While the UN wants Sudan to respect this whole month and wants other countries to help with the food crisis when we get down to it they can only ask. The UN has no way to enforce power on any other countries and while I understand why I feel in a way it could be considered a flaw.
